From Acapulco to Milano. In one week, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez could hit an extraordinary double. After the first Major won as a pair in Mexico, the two Spanish players could end the season on a high at the Allianz Cloud and then move the focus to the Premier Padel Finals. Triay and Fernandez, with a 6-3 6-2 win over Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, join Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez in the final scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m.. At stake, in addition to the 1000 points in the FIP ranking guaranteed by the victory of each P1, is also the second place in terms of number of titles in the season: behind Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez with nine, there are in fact both Triay and Fernandez and Brea and Gonzalez with five.
Gemma and Claudia celebrated, while Tamara Icardo’s chances of playing in the Finals slipped away. Despite an injury, the Spanish had been able to recover to stay in the running during the last tournament of the season: the knockout in Milano, however, qualifies Ale Alonso, who therefore completes the picture of the 16 queens. And at the end of the match Gemma wished to dedicate a thought to her rival: “I feel sorry for Tamara that she will not play the Finals, but I’m happy that she is returning to her level. Speaking about the match, it’s a show to play with this atmosphere. We managed a high-level match, raising the quality of the lob and attacking. We are very happy, and the credit for this is also due to the team, which worked well”. For Claudia Fernandez, however, it will be her first final in Italy after being eliminated in the semifinals in both Roma and Genova. “And I’m really happy”, admits the young Spanish, who has quickly become an idol for the Allianz Cloud crowd.
If a balanced first set was decided by a break at 5-3, in the second the break came at 3-2. A break that Triay and Fernandez repeated on 5-2, closing and going straight into the final.
