Coello and Tapia dominate Premier Padel, but Galan and Lebron are still hungry

Last year, the Milan Premier Padel P1 final had no history. It was won by Ale Galan and Juan Lebron, leaving only four games (6-2 6-2) to Victor Ruiz and Lucas Bergamini in a match that lasted just over an hour. In 2023, however, a pair able to dominate the circuit has landed on the Premier Padel planet: the defending champions, in the hunt for their first success in 2023, will have to face Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who have won the last four Premier Padel tournaments, starting with the one in Rome, at the Foro Italico, and then moving on to Madrid, Mendoza and Paris, after the first stage – played in March in Doha, Qatar – had gone to the ‘Superpibes’ Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno.

Last year, Coello – paired with Fernando Belasteguin – lost in the semifinals against Galan and Lebron, who were unplayable at the time. In a year, however, many things have changed: Coello, with Tapia, now forms a formidable pair, and some physical problems of Lebron in the middle of the season have limited the performance, and the results, of the ‘Galacticos’, so much so that at the top of the FIP ranking there is now Coello himself, with Galan and Lebron number 2 in the ranking. The dominators of the circuit in the 2022 season (four Premier Padel titles) are, however, ready to defend their title at the Allianz Cloud, in a tournament that will see the best world players on court.

The final played last year by Ruiz and Bergamini a year ago shows that there is also room for outsiders: Franco Stupaczuk (7) and Martin Di Nenno (4) will be the number 3 seed, followed by Federico Chingotto (8) and Paquito Navarro (5), ready to exalt the Milan fans with their amazing skills. And again, Mike Yanguas (21) and Fernando Belasteguin (9) number 5 seeds, with Juan Tello (10) and Alex Ruiz (13) number 6, Momo Gonzalez – number 14 in the ranking and protagonist last year of the tournament’s best point, recently reposted on the Milano Premier Padel social networks – and Javier Garrido (20) number 7 and the pair formed by Agustin and Sanyo Gutierrez at number 8 in the seeding. Finally, number 9 will be Ruiz and Bergamini, dreaming of another final.
